How to Use the New FamilySearch "Record Search - Pilot Site"
and Get Free Copies of Original Records
Note: This information is too good not to have a video clip. This lesson is from the January 2008 issue of the Treasure Maps Genealogy email newsletter.
This is the "Record Search - Pilot Site
Free Genealogy Records Online? Yes! You've got to try this. You may have been to the FamilySearch site before, but what they are working on is truly wonderful. I'm talking about access to copies of free original records - and you've got to see the interface. Very, very nice.
This is happening in part (a large part) because of "thousands of volunteers around the world who are helping to make more free records available online through FamilySearch Indexing." You will see links asking for volunteer "Indexers" on the Pilot site. I imagine many of Treasure Maps readers are involved with this already.
Try this for yourself, as shown in the examples in the video. Find some of your ancestors and save those records.
The FamilySearch, Record Search - Pilot Site, is only going to get better and better. And bless all of you volunteers in the Indexing program.

Enjoyed the video on the Family Search pilot site. I will start working on it tomorrow. Your Treasure Maps newsletter is very interesting and I have been reading it for a few months now. I am 80 years old and have been doing genealogy for two years now, and I love it. I have found out so much about my family, but my siblings are not impressed. Nevertheless, it gives me something to do that makes my life really satisfying.
By the way, I have now indexed 6000 records for Family Search, because I feel that I need to pay back for all the free information that they and others provide to us hobbyists. Good health to you and your family.
I tried the pilot site on FamilySearch.org that you recommended, Robert, and I found lots of death certificates and census records. Thanks so much!
Oh yes I forgot…you are & Cindy too,are the ones that helped me get my Cherokee heritage together. I am 60 now & have wanted to do this since I was 19…Yahoo…Sparky…
I work behind the scene on the pilot site on Family Search that you made a demo of. You did a good job showing how easy it is to find ancestors on line. It’s so easy that we’ll just have to get more records out there to keep you coming back. Thanks! Keep up the good work.
I look forward to using this site. I have used Family Search before, but not real recently. I have many records to share through a maternal cousin. Life keeps interfering. Thanks for all you do.
